PUDEMO UPDATE ON PROTEST DAY 2

People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO)

Statement

6 September 2011

SOURCE

Swazis up the tempo in their demand for the democratization of Swaziland

A democracy tsunami is slowly, but surely building up in Swaziland! This was clearly demonstrated today when a strong army of pro-democracy forces swelled the streets of Manzini city as early as 1000hours in the morning. Close to 7,000 determined and resolute activists marched through the streets under the scorching heat still echoing the call for the democratization of their motherland, Swaziland.

As PUDEMO and the oppressed masses of our country, we are greatly humbled by the international solidarity demonstrated through the presence of representatives from COSATU, the SDC South African Chapter and the Zimbabwe Global Forum. Their assuring addresses left the democracy activists and marchers greatly inspired, while leaving the Tinkhundla royal regime forces clearly shuttered and helpless.

We are also aware and greatly humbled that other SDC chapters in many other countries globally are also demonstrating in solidarity with the oppressed people of Swaziland in the true spirit of internationalism.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 7 September 2011), the action continues and gets decentralized to other regions of the country in particular the small towns of Siteki in the East and Nhlangano in the South, while other demonstrators shall converge in Manzini city.
